Age Range

Supporting young people through key stages of education.

Eden House supports young people across the secondary age range, with individual circumstances considered as part of every referral.

11–16

Young People

Our core provision is designed for young people aged 11 to 16 years.

6–11

Year Groups

We work across Years 6 to 11, with Year 6 considered where appropriate to the individual young person's needs.

Every referral is considered individually. Age and year group are one part of understanding whether Eden House may be an appropriate provision.

Who We Support

Understanding the barriers behind disengagement.

Young people may arrive at alternative provision for different reasons. Eden House considers the individual circumstances behind educational barriers rather than relying on a single label or diagnosis.

01

Social, Emotional & Mental Health

Young people who may need additional support with emotional wellbeing, relationships, confidence or managing the demands of education.

02

Behavioural Difficulties

Young people whose behaviour may be affecting their learning, relationships or ability to remain successfully engaged in school.

03

Emotional Regulation

Young people who may need support to recognise, communicate and manage strong emotions in a safe and constructive way.

04

EBSA & School Avoidance

Young people experiencing emotional barriers that make attending or engaging with school difficult, including emotionally based school avoidance.

05

Persistent Absence

Young people whose attendance has become a significant barrier to consistent participation and educational progress.

06

Risk of Exclusion

Young people who may be at risk of suspension or permanent exclusion and require a different educational approach.

07

Disengagement from Education

Young people who have become disconnected from learning and may need a more personalised route back into education.

08

Safeguarding Vulnerabilities

Young people whose circumstances may create additional barriers to safe, stable and consistent engagement with education.

09

Additional Educational Barriers

Other individual circumstances that may affect participation, engagement or access to a suitable educational pathway.

A need or difficulty does not automatically determine suitability. Every young person's circumstances are considered individually.

Our Approach to Suitability

Suitability starts with understanding the young person.

Every referral is considered individually. We look at the wider picture around a young person rather than relying on a single need, diagnosis or behaviour.

01

Referral Information

We begin by understanding the information shared about the young person's circumstances, needs and current education.

02

Professional Discussion

We work with the referring school, family and relevant professionals to build a fuller understanding.

03

Existing Assessments

Relevant assessments and professional information can help inform the wider picture of the young person's needs.

04

Educational History

We consider previous experiences of education, attendance, engagement and any barriers to learning.

05

Individual Needs

The overall picture helps inform whether Eden House may provide an appropriate educational pathway.

The aim is not simply to find a placement - it is to understand what support is right for the young person.

Working With Schools

A placement works best when everyone stays connected.

Eden House works collaboratively with referring schools, families and relevant professionals throughout a young person's placement. Clear communication helps everyone understand progress, needs and next steps.

Partnership is part of the placement.

We recognise that schools remain an important part of the wider educational journey. Information sharing, regular communication and review help keep the placement purposeful and connected to the young person's wider goals.

01

Information Sharing

Relevant information is shared to help us understand the young person's needs and educational context.

02

Regular Communication

Communication with schools helps keep everyone informed about the placement and emerging needs.

03

Review Meetings

Reviews provide an opportunity to reflect on progress, challenges and the direction of the placement.

04

Progress Monitoring

Progress can be considered across learning, engagement, attendance and wider educational development.

05

Reintegration Planning

Where appropriate, planning can support a young person's transition towards their next educational pathway.

Intended Outcomes

Supporting the next step in a young person's journey.

The right next step will look different for every young person. Placement planning considers their needs, progress and longer-term educational pathway.

01

Reintegration

Where appropriate, support can contribute towards a planned return to mainstream education.

02

Another Suitable Setting

Some young people may move towards another educational setting that better matches their developing needs.

03

Post-16 Education

Planning may focus on preparing young people for further education, college or another post-16 pathway.

04

Employment or Training

Where appropriate, young people may progress towards employment, training or other purposeful destinations.

The goal is always to support positive educational progression and a meaningful next step.

DISCUSS SUITABILITY

Every young person is different. If you are considering whether Eden House may be an appropriate provision, we can talk through their circumstances, current needs and educational journey with you.

Our approach is collaborative, helping schools, families and professionals understand the support available and consider the most appropriate next step.
